Change Your Response to Stress
These are high-stress times. Every day brings a new wave of anxiety and uncertainty, disrupting sleep patterns and precipitating many other unseen and largely detrimental physiological, emotional, and mental processes that make us vulnerable to dis-ease and undermine long-term health and longevity. And while we cannot and should not eliminate stress from our lives —it’s an important survival response— we can control how the brain and body respond to it.
Leveraging the integral, stress-regulating role of the vagus nerve - considered the body’s largest neural pathway and running from brain to gut, Sensitive Approach — Safe & Sound Protocol (SA-SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to alter your stress response.
Successfully tested in thousands of patients of all ages, SA-SSP is grounded in Dr. Stephen Porges’s Polyvagal Theory. This music-based listening therapy has been profoundly effective in helping individuals of all ages transform their response to stress. By gently modifying your 000sympathetic response (the fight-or-flight alarm), this highly effective auditory program has been shown to improve social connection, keep you out of the negative self-talk loop, and have a powerfully positive impact on how you see the world and yourself within it.
Bring your healthiest self into focus with this system of mind-body training to build mental, emotional and physical resilience and help mitigate your body’s negative response to the effects of chronic stress.
What To Expect
SA-SSP offers a new way of seeing and responding to your external and internal worlds, bringing them into resilient balance. This one-on-one training includes both supervised and self-guided sessions using auditory programs of specially filtered music, offered in a variety of music genres.
Dr. Stephen Porges’ renowned Polyvagal Theory provides SA-SSP’s scientific framework to reduce the adverse effects of chronic stress and expand our abilities to engage with self and others.
Conducted over a period of five supervised remote sessions, this specially calibrated aural experience is designed to gently alter the neural pathways that impact your stress response, allowing you to naturally deflect the rabbit hole of constant stress and anxiety.
Stress and Your Health
Our responses to life are governed by our autonomic nervous system (ANS), whose three states include dorsal vagal (shut down), sympathetic (activated/ fight), and ventral vagal (open and engaged). Bringing the three states into balance is key to good health.
Yet most of us react to events and people as if these outside forces are causing us to feel as we do. Here's the good news: The state of our autonomic nervous system (dorsal, sympathetic, or ventral), serving as our platform for thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, is the bridge between the outer world and our inner experience, opening the door for enhanced recognition and understanding of our own and others’ behaviors.
SA-SSP enhances that bridge, providing an opportunity to recalibrate your ANS and change the 'story' of how we perceive ourselves in the world as well as our interpersonal experiences.
The Health Effects of Chronic Stress
When we are in a state of stress, we are generally aware of how we’re more irritable and impatient. We can’t focus. We don’t sleep soundly. At a certain point, constant stress is exhausting. While we can identify these daily impacts - none of which are optimal for personality or performance, it is the unseen physiological and psychological impacts that present an avoidable threat to long-term health and well-being.
Unmitigated stress is a known factor in systemic inflammation, degrading the resilience of our physical and mental health in ways that can profoundly impact our long-term health and increase the odds of chronic disease.
